On January 31, 2025, the SPACETIME project took part in the first annual meeting of the Understanding Tumor-Host Interactions (U-THI) Cluster, hosted by THRIVE liver cancer and IDIBAPS in Barcelona.
This collaborative gathering brought together all six projects within the cluster—THRIVE, MULTIR, GLIOMATCH, HIT-GLIO, ARTURO, and SPACETIME—to align efforts, exchange insights, and define a common vision for the next phase of research.
Throughout the day, representatives from each project explored key areas of collaboration, including:
- Data Management & Sharing – Establishing best practices and a joint approach to research data
- Communication & Dissemination – Coordinating outreach efforts and developing shared materials
- Research & Innovation – Aligning methodologies to enhance scientific impact
- Addressing Inequalities – Identifying ways to improve access to innovative cancer care
- Citizen & Patient Engagement – Strengthening interactions with patients and the public
During the Research & Innovation session, SPACETIME’s Febe van Maldegem and Marieke Fransen led discussions on harmonizing experimental models and reducing overlaps across projects to accelerate discoveries in tumor evolution and therapy resistance.
The meeting also provided a platform for strategic planning, with teams setting goals for the next 12 months and defining opportunities for joint events and future collaboration.
A huge thank you to all participants and organizers for an inspiring and productive event. We look forward to shaping the future of cancer research—together.
Stay tuned for more updates on SPACETIME’s role in the U-THI Cluster!
