The SPACETIME consortium gathered in Barcelona on 17–18 November 2025 for our Second Annual Meeting, hosted at Hospital Universitari Dexeus and organized by partner PANGAEA Oncology. Over two days, partners reviewed progress from the project’s first year and aligned on the scientific and clinical priorities ahead. We were also pleased to have several consortium members joining online, ensuring broad participation across the project.
We were delighted to have Prof. Marieke Fransen, one of the project coordinators, open the meeting with a keynote on the role of tumour-draining lymph nodes and systemic immune responses. It was also an honour to welcome Dr Rafael Rosell, who shared cutting-edge insights into the KRAS–tumour microenvironment interplay and its relevance for future therapeutic approaches.
Each Work Package leader presented the key achievements from year one and the plans for 2026. In addition, the meeting provided dedicated time for WP teams to meet, exchange updates, and coordinate next steps and priorities for the upcoming year.
Two roundtables brought essential perspectives:
- Patient Advisory Board Roundtable – A meaningful discussion reminding us that behind every sample there is a human story. Patients emphasised the importance of hope, even when progress comes in small steps.
- Clinical Roundtable – Experts in thoracic surgery, pulmonology, oncology and molecular pathology discussed the current landscape of early detection and screening of lung cancer, including the progress of the CASSANDRA project. Their insights highlighted how early screening efforts complement SPACETIME’s focus on identifying new treatment strategies.
The meeting also featured a lively poster session with 17 posters, giving researchers a chance to interact more closely and delve into scientific details.
Overall, it was an inspiring and productive meeting showcasing the strong progress achieved in SPACETIME’s first year. We look forward to continuing this momentum—and to meeting again next year in Slovenia.
